Booking terms & privacy
The small print, kept short and in plain English.
These are example terms written for a demo website. They are not legal advice and are not the terms of any real business.
Booking your stay
- Your booking is confirmed once we've received your deposit and sent you a written confirmation by email.
- The person making the booking must be 18 or over and will be responsible for everyone in the party.
- The maximum number of guests is shown on each cottage page and must not be exceeded.
- Check-in is from 4pm and check-out is by 10am, unless we've agreed otherwise.
- Please treat the cottage as you would your own home. If anything is damaged, let us know and we'll sort it out together; you may be asked to cover the cost of repairs beyond normal wear and tear.
Deposit and payment
- A deposit of 25% of the total price is due when you book.
- The balance is due 6 weeks before your arrival date. For bookings made within 6 weeks of arrival, full payment is due at the time of booking.
- We accept bank transfer and debit or credit card. There are no booking fees or card charges.
- Prices include linen, towels, heating, electricity and Wi-Fi. Dog charges (Gull's Rest only) are added to the balance.
Cancellation
- If you cancel more than 6 weeks before arrival, we'll refund everything you've paid except the deposit.
- If you cancel within 6 weeks of arrival, the full price is due. If we're able to re-let your dates, we'll refund what you've paid, minus the deposit.
- We strongly recommend taking out travel insurance with cancellation cover when you book.
- In the unlikely event that we have to cancel, we'll refund everything you've paid in full.
Pets
- Up to 2 well-behaved dogs are welcome at Gull's Rest for £25 per dog per stay. Please tell us about your dog when you book.
- Dogs must not be left alone in the cottage, and should be kept off beds and sofas.
- Please clean up after your dog in the garden and around the village.
- Tide House is pet-free, to keep it suitable for guests with allergies. Assistance dogs are always welcome at both cottages.
Privacy notice
This explains how we look after the information you give us. We are Tamsin and Mark, trading as Porthwenna Cottages, and we are responsible for your personal data (the "data controller"). Contact us at stay@example.com or 01632 960456.
Enquiry and booking forms
When you send an enquiry, we receive your name, email address, phone number (if given), dates, party size and anything you write in your message. We use this only to reply to you and, if you book, to manage your stay. Our legal basis is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, and then performing that contract.
Newsletter
If you tick the box to join our mailing list, we'll use your email address to send you occasional news about availability and offers. Our legal basis is your consent. Every email has an unsubscribe link, or you can just ask us to remove you.
Who else sees your information
Our forms are handled by a form service (Formspree), which passes your message to our email inbox and may store it on servers in the United States. Our email and website hosting providers also process data on our behalf. We never sell your details or share them with anyone for marketing.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that don't lead to a booking: deleted within 12 months.
- Booking records: kept for 6 years after your stay, as required by HMRC.
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or withdraw your consent to marketing at any time. Email us and we'll respond within one month, free of charge. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
